The barrels of Blaser R8 rifles (as well as the older R93 models) are easily interchangeable. The system is very simple: loosen two screws under the fore-end and lift the barrel out of the receiver. The screws are located inside the fore-end and cannot fall out. They are loosened using the Blaser hex key provided with the rifle. The scope mounts directly to the barrel via quick-release mounts, so your zero is maintained perfectly even if you change barrels frequently.
The bolt head is caliber-group specific. For example, calibers like .308, 6.5 Creedmoor or 9.3x62 use the Standard-size bolt head. So, switching calibers within this group only requires a barrel change. If you want to switch from .308 to a Magnum caliber, you'll need a Magnum-size bolt head. Magnum calibers include .300 Win Mag, .375 H&H Magnum, 8.5x55 Blaser, and 6.5 PRC. Smaller calibers like .223 Remington require a Mini-size bolt head.
In addition to Blaser, the Blaser Group also owns Sauer and Mauser. Each brand focuses on different rifle styles, but manufacturing is managed within the same company. The Blaser Group also includes optics brands such as Liemke and Minox. Furthermore, SIG Sauer, which mainly operates in the United States, is under the same ownership as the Blaser Group.
